We smiled at their arrival
And cried in their pains
Some days they were happy
Other days they had doubts
But pull through, they and we always did
Such was the life we live and led
They were here you know
And oh, we had great times and fond memories
We made plans,
Then, as if birthed by a twisted mind
Today, now, the sermon goes "danger in numbers"
Abide by this we tried, so we stay away to stay safe and keep them safe
And then, they were there
But it was not done.
We took all precaution that we deemed necessary
Yet, our guard was still caught unaware
Then, they were gone
Their names? Drowned in a sea of statistics.
No last hugs or final kisses, for when they left,
we were still in confinement you see.
We bade no farewell
We heard no parting words
For death comes in many forms but in all of them remains discourteous.
