To do a dull thing with style is better than doing an edgy thing without it.

Diary of the unmarried.

What a beautiful day to be getting married. The sun was up but wasn't scorching. Its mix with the harmattan winds created that perfect blend.

And so I woke up late after all the preparation and had less than 10 minutes to have a bath. My hairstylist and makeup artist where here already.

How long will it take to glam me up?

 About 60 minutes ma.

Chai can't you finish it in less?

Haba it's your day, don't rush it my sister    yelled.

So we did hair and makeup for 2 hours, all the while my dad threatening leaving us behind as we were running late for the church service. Empty threats I knew. He'd rather wait the whole day for me rather than show up empty handed to all those guests at the service, worse still, face the wrath of my mom.

Well, my photographer was yet to finish capturing those pre ceremony moments and I'll be damned if he didn't get the shots of my Jimmy choo shoes before I wore it and my dress completely concealed it.

Today is indeed the happiest day of my life. You never understand that statement until it's your day.
I couldn't stop sneaking peeks of my reflection on absolutely anything with a reflective surface. And right now, my choice of reflective surface was the rear view mirror  of the car conveying us to church and heck was I was impressed with myself. Vain! I know, but who else was I supposed to be impressed with on my own wedding day?!

We however got to the church in time as my dad stood proudly waiting by the stairs to walk his little girl down the aisle.
As I entered the church I marvelled at the beautiful array of flowers decorating the church. There was an assortment of yellow, white, pink and orange azaleas at the side of each pew. Then the chandeliers of beautiful pink camelia flowers with its glossy green leaves sitting like a suspended crown in the air. I smiled, very satisfied.

Then I caught a glimpse of the podium and I saw him. My prince. Smiling that sheepish but endearing way he always does at me even though he couldn't see my face from that distance thanks to the veil that covered my face, yet smile at me he did.

I finally got there and my dad handed me over to him, the pastor started with the famous words
" Dearly beloved, we are gathered together here, in the sight of God, and in the presence of family and friends, to join together this man and this woman, in holy matrimony........................................................................................ ................by the power vested in me by the church, I now pronounce you Man and Wife, you may kiss your bride".
